As of May 28, 2013 Senator Link had not filed his proposed bill. The legislature’s spring session ends on May 31, 2014.
On May 15, 2014 the Defendant’s filed their Answer and Affirmative Defenses in Heaton v. Quinn – the lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of the pension reform law P.A. 98-599
On May 7, 2014 the Fifth District Appellate Court heard oral argument in Vaughn v. Carbondale Police Pension Board. The trial court affirmed the Pension Board’s decision terminating the plaintiff’s disability pension pursuant to the restoration statutes. The appeal raises issues regarding the sufficiency of the evidence, but more importantly, whether the Pension Board violated the plaintiff’s due process rights for denying plaintiff’s petition for a hearing.
The We Are One Illinois Coalition filed a motion for a temporary restraining order and preliminary injunction to prevent PA 98-599 from taking effect on June 1, 2014.
